Congratulations to Korea’s Samsung Galaxy team for taking out the 2017 League of Legends Worlds in Beijing’s Olympic Stadium!
The finals were played in the iconic ‘Birds Nest’ stadium used in the 2008 Summer Olympics in front of more than 40,000 fans, with millions streaming globally.
In a historic re-match, Samsung Galaxy turned the tables and knocked off fellow Korean LOL team and esports powerhouse, SK Telecom 3-0 in the best of 5 finals.
As well as taking home the Summoner’s Cup, Samsung Galaxy will take home 37.5% of the prize pool, currently over US$4.6m, or over US$1.7m for 1st place. Uniquely, Riot Games adds to the prize pool with fan contributions from revenue raised during the tournament.
